Second-story additions that double your home without changing the lot — or the neighborhood you love.

Second-story additions in Los Angeles

Add a floor without leaving the neighborhood.

A second-story addition is one of the most efficient ways to grow a home — you keep the lot, the trees, and the address you love, and you roughly double the square footage above.

Sage n' Slate plans, engineers, and builds second-story additions across Los Angeles. The structural integration and architectural fit are where these projects succeed or fail; we coordinate both from the first sketch.

Why homeowners choose us

What a coordinated team brings to going vertical.

Going up means cutting into the existing roof and reframing the structure beneath. It is a tightly choreographed project that rewards experience and punishes improvisation.

Common questions

Asked and answered.

Can my house support a second story?

+

Most can with some structural reinforcement. The feasibility study answers this early — we look at the existing foundation, framing, and lateral capacity before design proceeds.

How long does a second-story addition take?

+

Typical construction is 7–12 months, plus 4–6 months for design, engineering, and permits beforehand.

Can we live in the house during construction?

+

During the open-roof phase, usually no. The rest of the project allows for limited occupancy. We'll plan the relocation window with you.

Will the addition look added-on?

+

Not if the design is right. We match rooflines, proportions, and materials so the result reads as one house, not two stacked.
